Weekly Gathering

Each Sunday we gather to do the most important thing of the entire week…worship God together. That is why we prioritize gathering together each and every week. The New Testament calls this first day of the week the Lord’s Day. This is a day set aside by Christians to delight in Jesus, resting in Him and His finished work on the cross. Worship is not only our singing but all aspects of our time both together and individually. We center our thoughts on God and focus on what we will be doing for eternity as His beloved children. We sing together just as we will do forever in heaven rather than listening to performers. Our music is centered on theologically informed lyrics that move our hearts to consider God’s person, what He has done, what He is doing, and what He will do in the days ahead. We worship because God is worthy. Right theology always moves us to worship our God of infinite worth.

Our sermons are verse by verse exposition through entire books of the Bible. We rotate sermon series between Old Testament and New Testament so we have a well balanced diet of God’s Word. Bring a print copy Bible as we open together and hear from God. This will help you know your Bible better than with electronic versions. If you don’t have a print copy, we would be delighted to give you a Bible as a gift.

We are in process of renovating our meeting space at 5301 Chippewa Rd. We have made a great deal of progress. Yet a good amount of work remains to be done. The ongoing renovations are a wonderful picture of the continued work God is doing in us as His renewed children. In fact, our name reflects this reality in a remarkable way! Our name is also a portrait of the newness of our church plant. We are hoping to develop several additional aspects of our ministry as we grow. We trust God is going to send us people who eagerly want to please Him and give Him glory in the local church.

Poiēma Church has a fully furnished mother’s room available. We do not currently have a separate children’s ministry or nursery care. We do highly prize our children and want them to be with us as we worship. They are never a distraction for what we do as we gather. Jesus said let the little children come to me because the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. Yet, we believe age appropriate lessons are very helpful. We are still building Poiēma Church in the days ahead as an outpost of God’s kingdom. Let’s build it together!

Since our focus is on God and not ourselves, our priority is not on what we wear. So wear appropriate clothes that are comfortable. As a new church plant we expect there will be a range in how we dress. Whatever your dress, make the focus on God so that you and others who come to worship are not distracted by what we wear.

We also believe we need each other. It is in community that we are reminded of the truths of the gospel, change and grow together, and practice all the one anothering from the Bible. Our time together is precious and an opportunity to build one another up. We know we are not perfect, but we are becoming more like Jesus in His perfection as redeemed children of God. If you also know you are not perfect, you will be right at home along with us as we grow together.
